Culture is just one determinant of individual behavior – and is never predictive of any particular behavior or particular person's behavior. Nevertheless, violence characterizes some of the diverse cultures that are increasingly represented in the United States.

Tolerance of violence toward animals is one cultural manifestation that is alien to most Americans.

Importing Third World Cruelty

"The horses plunge headfirst into the ground or somersault onto their heads. Many end up with broken necks, legs and other severe injuries. It is a death sentence. Many of the immigrants pouring into the U.S. come from Third World countries and cultures where attitudes toward animals are vastly different from those of most Americans. Countries where the most basic laws against animal cruelty are non-existent. Cultures, in fact, that are not only indifferent to animal suffering, but where sadistic forms of animal cruelty are celebrated as sport.

Horse-tripping

Horse-tripping is the practice of roping the front or hind legs of a galloping horse, causing the animal to trip and come crashing to the ground, for purposes of  "entertainment." The event is part of the charreada, or Mexican- style rodeo. Most of the horses used have been purchased at auction by slaughterhouse buyers who are trying to squeeze one last nickel out of them by renting them out to weekend Charro rodeos. The terrified animals are lassoed and tripped repeatedly. Some have been known to try to leap over arena walls in an attempt to escape the torment. Horrendous injuries are common: broken necks, broken limbs, deep lacerations, broken teeth. Horse tripping has been banned in a number of states, including California, Illinois, New Mexico, and Texas.

Animal Sacrifice

In Fresno, CA, a Hmong Immigrant beat a German Shepard puppy to death to “appease an evil spirit” plaguing his wife.

In Ringgold. VA, employees of a concrete company arrived at work to find a headless rooster hanging from a tree, put there by a disgruntled neighbor - a voodoo practitioner who said that he had sacrificed the bird to “Shango,” the god of enemies.

In San Francisco, authorities seized more than a hundred animals, many sick and starving, from a home where they were being kept for use as sacrifices for practitioners of Santeria, a religion that has spread rapidly in the U.S. among Latinos from Central and South America.

Cockfighting

Cockfighting is a blood “sport” in which two specially bred birds, known as gamecocks, are placed in an enclosure to fight, for the purposes of gambling and entertainment. The birds cannot escape the fight, no matter how exhausted or injured they become. Severe injuries are common as the birds’ legs are fitted with steel blades or gaffs designed to puncture and mutilate. Cockfights usually result in the death of one of the birds and sometimes both. Dying birds are tossed in the trash along with the dead. Cockfighting is illegal in almost every state but is still widely practiced, frequently by immigrants who attempt to defend the barbaric practice by claiming it as part of their “culture.”

The Animal Cruelty/Human Violence Connection

Albert DeSalvo, the “Boston Strangler” who killed 13 women started out by trapping dogs and cats in orange crates and shooting them with arrows. Jeffrey Dahmer killed neighborhood pets and impaled dogs’ heads on sticks. Ted Bundy mutilated animals before killing dozens of women.

History is replete with such examples.

The connection between animal cruelty and human violence has been well- established in the law enforcement and mental health communities. The FBI uses reports of animal cruelty in analyzing the threat potential of suspected and known criminals.

The American Psychiatric Association considers animal cruelty one of the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder.

Not every immigrant is an animal abuser, of course, but we should be concerned about the many who demonstrate their indifference to animal life almost as soon as they step foot over the border:

. . . “[Arizona rancher] Kuykendall found her dog, a mastiff, poisoned with strychnine. The animal suffered for five hours before dying a horrible death, “for the crime of barking.” One of Kuykendal’s neighbors found his dog dead, too, its throat slashed. Another has had four dogs poisoned.” (“At War on the Border,” Leo W. Banks, Tucson Weekly )

A Culture of Violence

Violent crime is abhorrent to Americans as to most people everywhere. Many Americans believe that mass immigration raises the level of violence within our society, imposing this further penalty that ordinary people most unwillingly pay.

Baltimore, MD: Three young children are found murdered; one decapitated and two partially beheaded. Two illegal immigrants who entered the United States by walking across the Arizona desert are charged with the grisly crime.

This horrific crime is just one of many cases involving illegal immigrants that has made the headlines across the country in recent years.

Of course, not every illegal immigrant comes to this country to commit violent crimes. That said, it cannot be denied that, through uncontrolled mass immigration, we are importing a significant violent element. It is a fact that more than 25% of all inmates in federal prisons are foreign-born.

Greenwich, CT: 13-year-old Christina Long’s body is found face down in a creek. She has been murdered, strangled to death by an illegal Brazilian national.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, AZ: 28-year-old park ranger Kris Eggle is shot and killed in the line of duty while pursuing members of a drug cartel hit squad who fled into the U.S. after committing murders in Mexico. His murderer is sentenced to 15 years; two accomplices are not charged. Bonita Springs, FL: An illegal alien from Honduras is arrested and charged with six counts of sexual battery with serious injuries after raping a 69 year- old woman in two separate incidents and being caught breaking into her house a third time. The woman later dies from injuries sustained during the assaults. Klamath Falls, Oregon: Missionary worker Sister Helen Chaska is raped and murdered by being strangled with her rosary beads – the beads are found imbedded in her neck. Her accused murderer is Maximiliano Esparza, who is in the United States illegally, and was convicted in 1988 of robbery and kidnapping in Los Angeles. Suffolk County, NY: Police and federal agents conduct early morning raids and arrest 27 illegal aliens who are convicted sex offenders. According to authorities, their victims are between 6 and 12 years old.

Gangs With Suspected Terrorist Connections Close in on Nation’s Cities

We know from El Salvadoran law enforcement that al Qaeda is meeting with violent gang leaders in El Salvador. We have also had reports that Middle Easterners have been sighted on the banks of the Rio Grande.” (Representative Solomon Ortiz, Texas, D-27th)

MS-13 was the cover story in the February issue of POLICE magazine.

In March, the government announced the arrests of 103 alleged members of the violent El Salvadoran gang Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13), believed to have connections to al Qaeda. All of those arrested were reportedly in the country illegally. MS-13 - known for its extreme violence and penchant for using machetes in vicious attacks - has established a major criminal presence across the U.S., including right at the steps of our nation’s capitol. Washington-area headlines illustrate the growing threat: “Machetes becoming weapon of choice for Northern Virginia Gangs,” Associated Press,1/22/05; “Residents Voice Fears at Forum on Gang Growth” Washington Post 1/30/05 And residents in the suburbs of Washington D.C.,as elsewhere, have good reason to be afraid.

Recently in Virginia, a16-year-old boy had both hands almost completely severed in a MS-13 machete attack. In another machete attack a man lost 3 fingers. In Maryland, a MS-13 gang member was convicted of beating a rival gang member to death with a golf club. Among the most notorious crimes attributed to MS-13 is the gang rape of two deaf girls, one 14, the other 17, in a Massachusetts park in 2002. Three MS- 13 gang members were charged in the brutal rapes, during which one victim, who also suffered from cerebral palsy, was knocked from her wheelchair before the assault. As we go to press, reports are that the MS-13 gang has threatened violence against American volunteers taking part in the Minuteman Project, which is mobilizing citizens to patrol the Arizona border in April. Uncontrolled mass immigration coupled with an unbridled tolerance of and encouragement for multiculturalism, have brought this kind of crime into our communities. And now, the Bush Administration wants to reward and encourage illegal activity by granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

CCN explored the close relationship between legal and illegal immigration in our June 2004 Action Alert (“The Legal/Illegal Immigration Connection”). History has shown that once established, legal immigrants become a magnet for friends and family who want to move to the U.S. but don’t want to be bothered with waiting for a green card. An amnesty could mean adding 50 or more million immigrants to the number of immigrants already illegally here in the country, given that the average Mexican has a family of 4.

SOLUTION: We must seriously defend our borders with increased patrols fences and troops at the border. We must also enact a moratorium on all legal immigration in excess of 100,000 per year.

Tell them that you do not want the increase in illegal immigration and crime that an "earned legalization," "guest worker program" or other disguised amnesty for illegals will bring about. Tell them that the solution to the illegal immigration problem is strict enforcement of our laws against illegal immigration and a moratorium on legal immigration.

Emphasize that a moratorium on all immigration in excess of 100,000 per year is essential to reducing illegal immigration and stabilizing the U.S. population.

Advocacy for a moratorium on legal immigration creates leverage that allows other good bills to pass and is a solid, consistent defense against the bad immigration bills that are routinely floated – for example, versions of amnesty for illegal aliens.
